Final Year Project
Project Title
Peri-Urban Development: Getting Past the Mega Cities within the Cities
Description
My research elaborates on how urbanization is transforming the ‘Peri-Urban’ areas of Karachi into new mega-cities, creating great impacts on the environment, local communities, and the structure of the city as a whole. The case study of DHA City Karachi and its construction will shed light on the term ‘development’ and show how the lower middle class is majorly affected by such projects. Such development schemes are playing a significant role in creating gated communities with new forms of exclusion, exacerbating social cleavages, and further restricting public space.
